U from Utrecht
Utrecht has given the world one of its most influential pieces of furniture: the Red Blue Chair by Gerrit Rietveld, designed in 1917 and made in a workshop in the city. It is more than a chair, it is a manifesto of the De Stijl movement. The U from Utrecht is rooted in that legacy: primary colors, clean lines and the belief that form and function are inseparable.

Gallery Quality paper
At WIJCK. we attach great importance to the quality of our posters and we like to combine our sleek design with a touch of nostalgia! The paper we use contains a combination of recycled cotton and wood-free ingredients. In addition, the paper is FSC certified. With a subtle relief, the paper gives the poster a classic yet timeless look.
Biodegradable ink
In addition to using sustainable and high-quality paper, the inks we use in producing our posters are biodegradable. These are made from natural, plant-based ingredients that can be easily broken down without harming the environment. In addition, our ink remains colorfast much longer than the usual inks due to the natural base.
FSC Wooden frames
Our frames also have a sustainable character. The wood of our frames is sustainably obtained from Italy and contains an FSC quality mark, which stands for wood obtained from responsibly managed forests. The frames are provided with a matte black finish and processed by hand at our frame maker in Zoetermeer (NL). The frames can also be ordered separately without a poster.

In 1917, a young furniture maker in Utrecht designed a chair that would change the course of design history. Gerrit Rietveld, born and raised in Utrecht, created the Red Blue Chair as a three-dimensional expression of the principles that Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg were developing on a two-dimensional plane at the same time. Primary colors, red, blue, yellow and black, used not as decoration but as a structural principle.
The De Stijl movement, of which Rietveld was a part, believed that art and design could contribute to a better world, quite literally, by simplifying and organizing the environment. It was a utopian belief, perhaps naive, yet profoundly influential. De Stijl inspired the Bauhaus, Constructivism and, through those movements, much of what followed in modern design.
Utrecht has embraced that legacy. The Centraal Museum holds one of the largest Rietveld collections in the world. The Rietveld Schröder House, built in 1924 for Mrs. Schröder-Schräder, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. And the city itself carries a distinct character that reflects the innovative spirit of its most famous designer.
The U from Utrecht in the Typography Collection by WIJCK. is a direct tribute to Rietveld and De Stijl. Primary colors, clear compositions and the belief that a letter can also be a statement.
