X from Xi-An
Xi'an is the city of the Terracotta Army, the thousands of clay soldiers that Emperor Qin Shi Huang took with him into the afterlife more than two thousand years ago. The X from Xi'an draws from that richness: Chinese calligraphy as a visual language, terracotta tones as its palette. Earthy, ancient, immeasurable. A letter for a city that measures time differently.

Gallery Quality paper
At WIJCK. we attach great importance to the quality of our posters and we like to combine our sleek design with a touch of nostalgia! The paper we use contains a combination of recycled cotton and wood-free ingredients. In addition, the paper is FSC certified. With a subtle relief, the paper gives the poster a classic yet timeless look.
Biodegradable ink
In addition to using sustainable and high-quality paper, the inks we use in producing our posters are biodegradable. These are made from natural, plant-based ingredients that can be easily broken down without harming the environment. In addition, our ink remains colorfast much longer than the usual inks due to the natural base.
FSC Wooden frames
Our frames also have a sustainable character. The wood of our frames is sustainably obtained from Italy and contains an FSC quality mark, which stands for wood obtained from responsibly managed forests. The frames are provided with a matte black finish and processed by hand at our frame maker in Zoetermeer (NL). The frames can also be ordered separately without a poster.

In 1974, farmers digging a well uncovered something that would astonish the world: the first fragments of an army of more than eight thousand life-sized terracotta soldiers, commissioned by China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, who died in 210 BC. Each figure was unique, with different faces, hairstyles and expressions. It was an army for the afterlife, hidden beneath the soil of Shaanxi for more than two millennia.
Xi'an, once known as Chang'an and the starting point of the Silk Road, is a city that literally carries antiquity within it. The city walls from the Ming dynasty still stand intact. The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda overlooks the city from a distance. And everywhere there are traces of a civilization that has regarded calligraphy as one of its highest art forms for thousands of years.
Chinese calligraphy is an art that takes a lifetime to learn and master. The brush, the ink, the movement of the hand, every element matters. A well-executed character is not only readable, but also expressive, carrying energy, strength and sometimes stillness. It is an art that is both ancient and alive.
The X from Xi'an in the Typography Collection by WIJCK. brings together that calligraphic tradition with the color that defines the city: terracotta, the earthy red-brown of the soldiers that made Xi'an famous.
Available in multiple sizes, printed on high-quality paper.
